Our Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene (ABS) offers a vivid true colour ABS print filament for those looking for easy to use high quality to professional prints for their objects. The materials and compounds used in our ABS filaments are made from the highest grade materials which means your prints require minimal post-print work for your final objects. If you so wish, ABS prints can be chemically smoothed to remove layer lines and for a more refined look, Acrylic paints can be applied to your final prints for extra detail.
ABS is a commonly used thermoplastic as it is lightweight and can both be injection moulded and extruded. It has better mechanical properties than HDPE and less brittle than PLA and handles higher temperatures. ABS is well known for being the print material Lego and other kids toys are made from. Although ABS can be a tricker print material to work with than the likes of PLA as it tends to be more sensitive to temperature changes and fluctuations and so we recommend using ABS in a full enclosure with a heated build plate, this way ensuring the printing and cooling of your prints happen at a stable temperature. In general, ABS is a very good material to print with if you are looking for a print material designed to a stand a good amount of wear and tear, be strong against the elements (weatherproof), withstand more heat, pressure and stress than the likes of PLA and so this makes ABS great for applications where a lot of strength and durability is important. Due to the nature of how each layer bonds as it is being extruded, your prints with ABS will have a professional appearance and offers a less intensive post-print process on your designs. Generally speaking, this is an easy material to work with, offers a large print temperature window and excellent long-term storage durability.
AS ABS does not breakdown in landfills, you can discard your ABS prints either directly in the trash or send your waste material to a "number 7" recycling programme.
